Game Day Skinz (GDS) is bringing a revolutionary change to the world of football! The company has developed a new way to wrap football helmets in vinyl to give them an entirely different look. A lot of high school and college football teams do not have the luxury of owning multiple helmets for each player, and if they do, many lack the funds to have their entire team's helmets painted. The application method GDS uses can completely change the way an entire team's helmets look in a matter of hours, and at a fraction of what it would cost to paint them.
I have had the pleasure of knowing the COO of GDS, Krissy Cobb, for the last few years, and throughout that time, being able to watch this company expand, and flourish, has been nothing short of an awe-inspiring experience. I was approached by Krissy a few months ago, right as I was graduating college, with the idea of helping GDS by creating a training video for their "Self-Application Kit". I jumped at the chance to use my degree and help out her company. Through the process of filming and editing the project, I had to learn how to apply the wraps myself, so I began to help GDS on a few of their jobs at different schools. Entering this world of mostly high school football, I was constantly amazed by how happy people were with the service we provided; everybody had nothing but praise for our helmets, and seeing the look on both the coaches and kids faces when they saw the finished product, gave you the impression that this was like Christmas morning to them.
This past week was the start of playoffs for most high school teams here in Texas, and if you don't know, there is almost nothing more serious here than Texas football. Although I finished the training application video a while ago, I fell in love with what GDS does and I enjoy helping them out with their applications whenever I can. So with just Krissy, myself, and the CTO of the company, Chris Walerczyk, we set out all of last week to travel around Texas wrapping 200+ helmets. Starting our travels, we left Denton to a high school in Arlington, traveled to La Vernia high school San Antonio, then to Lubbock, Texas, where we wrapped both the helmets for Shallowater and Levelland high school, and finally finished our tour in Wylie high school on Friday. It was a long trip, but it was definitely worth it getting to help out Game Day Skinz, and seeing the involvement in each high school!
